Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
None noted. The crabs rarely interact that I have seen beyond fighting a bit about food (mostly just for show/claw waving)
Spawning Behavior:
Not witnessed
Post Spawn Behavior:
None. Each crab goes about its business.
Egg Details
Size: |
~1mm, slightly smaller
Color: |
Unknown what color initially, they turn dark as they get closer to hatch
Quantity: |
~100 (very rough estimate since the eggs are in a pouch)
Description:
I don't know what the eggs look like near the spawn since I haven't seen a female open her pouch around that time, but once they get closer to hatch the female leaves the pouch open more and the eggs are dark/silvery
Location:
Eggs are kept in a pouch under the female's abdomen
Other Details:
The spawn date used here is an estimate. Spawns are hidden in the egg pouch area and are rarely seen unless you catch the crab aerating the eggs or the spawn is huge. I estimated the spawn date to be ~2 weeks prior to the hatch date.
