Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
Late evening male begins swmming rapidly around the tank and flaring his fins, swimming up to the area beneath the return nozzles incenter of the tank. The female mostly ignores this and grazes around as usual, but occassionally follows him to the return nozzle area, then swims off to graze soome more.
Spawning Behavior:
The male and female tuck in under the return nozzle with the male nuzzling near the ventral region of the female. She then rapidly swims off releasing the eggs (which the tankmates pounce upon immediately!). The actual spawning takes only about 1-2 seconds, with the "foreplay" nuzzling lasting about 5-10 seconds.
Post Spawn Behavior:
Each go back to their usual grazing arounnd the tank, ignoring each other again.
