Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
I did not notice any pre-spawn behavior - no flower pot cleaning, etc.
Spawning Behavior:
Male's head became almost black, very pronounced considering he is a canary yellow fish. Female darted back and forth between live rock and flower pot. Female turned upside down to lay eggs on the top inside surface of the flower pot (much like clownfish would). Male would dart back and forth between live rock and the flower pot to attempt to fertilize the eggs. There was lots of aggressive interaction between the two with the smaller female being chased sporadically.
Post Spawn Behavior:
Male's head goes back to a canary yellow color and both male and female retreat to the live rock. There is very little parental care of the eggs. This may be due to their being inexperienced breeders or typical for the species... I don't know.

Egg Details
Size: |
approximately 1 mm
Color: |
clear to beige
Quantity: |
approximately 100
Description:
Sporadically laid compared to clownfish. Eggs are more round in shape than the typical oval clownfish egg. Eggs are almost completely clear just after being laid which makes them difficult to detect if the spawning event isn't observed.
Location:
Eggs have been laid on the top inside "ceiling" of a large flowerpot. This was the same location for both the 4/29/13 spawn (video recorded) and the 5/3/13 spawn (no video recorded).
