Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
This can go on for hours. Female gets agitated, swims the tank sampling various algae beds. Male follows closely. Male often displays "flutter dive" behavior with movements of anal vent (exposing orange color) and opening and closing tail fin like a fan very quickly. Female occasionally also show "flutter dive" behavior. When things are close, male "chatters" at females cheek as she thrusts into algae.
Spawning Behavior:
Female presses genital opening to substrate, male quickly joins her.
Post Spawn Behavior:
Both look stunned for a few seconds and float away from the spawning site on the current. Male then displays wildly as female swims quickly away.

Egg Details
Size: |
Sigh. Not quite sure.
Color: |
Mine were orangish, probably due to diet. Matt's were green.
Quantity: |
Sigh. Not quite sure.
Description:
Orangish, filled with opaque yolk such that I couldn't see cell division.
Location:
Not sure what the question means. They were in the substrate.
Other Details:
I've only been able to successfully collect eggs once. Unfortunately, I also collected some small amphipods that decimated them over night. I have a renewed commitment to these fish, though, and would like to try something like a peroxide dip to take care of the egg predators.
