Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
The male does lots of tile cleaning and both fish do "burnouts". Both fish appear square-like near their vents from ripening eggs and swollen gonads. More obvious in the female. One to three days before spawning the female's ovipositor will be visible. A few hours before spawning the male's "spermipositor" will be visible, and the female will take up vicious looking tile cleaning which looks more like tile biting.
Spawning Behavior:
While spawning both fish slowly pass over the area in circles laying eggs or fertilizing. Eggs stick to tile.
Post Spawn Behavior:
Very skittish for the remainder of the day. The next day the female will eat like a pig, but the male eats little while tending eggs. The male does the majority of egg tending.

2mm by 1mm.
Color: |
Orange at first, turning dark within a couple days, then silver near hatch.
Quantity: |
750 eggs.
Description:
Tightly clustered, move in the water current.
Location:
On the angled tile of a tile lean to.
Other Details:
Having issues with eggs not sticking to the tile and falling down (then eaten). First two spawns were only around 150 eggs because of this. After researching, I started feeding much more PE Mysis to the fish to provide chitin. This seems to have helped greatly in just a couple weeks, and appears it will rectify the problem in a couple more weeks.
