Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
parallel swimming ...can't tell which fish is leading. Several false spawning rises were observed in this pair.
Spawning Behavior:
The actual spawning rise is a corkscrew spiral to the surface, with gametes shed in the typical pelagic spawner "burst" at the apex of the spawning rise, followed by a rush back to the bottom
Post Spawn Behavior:
that's it...eggs float away.
Egg Details
Size: |
0.6 mm
Color: |
clear with a tiny dark oil globule that appears reddish under certain light
Quantity: |
hundreds if not thousands
Description:
eggs are extremely tiny, completely clear except for the oil globule, and barely visible to the naked eye. Even when backlit, I can really only see the "outlines" of the eggs. My parents (both wearers of glasses) could not see the eggs at all.
Location:
eggs are pelagic, and were collected by skimming the tank's surface. Eggs congregate at the meniscus in calm water.
Other Details:
Initial observations suggest that this first confirmed spawning in this pair may be infertile/ unfertilized. Time will tell.
