Spawn Details
Pre-Spawn Behavior: |
The male constantly pursues the female and dances all around her turning a very light shade
Spawning Behavior:
When the female is ready to mate, she will point her nose straight up while dancing with the female. I've also noted that the male will do this too. The male will bend and evacuate his empty pouch repeatedly - almost to show the female that he is ready.
They rise up in the water column together and with great precision the male opens his pouch and places it under the females abdomen. The female then deposits eggs into the pouch.
Post Spawn Behavior:
They both wiggle for a few minutes after mating.
In the mornings, the pregnant male will court the female to keep their bond strong. Very adorable!
