Methodologies |
Feeding Tactics/Medium: |
greenwater culture with SG 1.012 and occasionally dry bakers yeast when I am running low on greenwater
|
Split Cycle: |
The timing varies depending on rate of rotifer reproduction. This is controlled via lighting schedule and temperature. If I need rotifers I will bump the temp to 80F and set the lighting to 24 hours on. If I am just keeping rotifers for future needs I let them be room temp and set the lighting to 8 hours a day. |
Split Yield: |
When desired rotifer density is attained 3/4 of culture is harvested and the depleted volume is replaced with greenwater culture |
Number of Cultures: |
2-3 at all times |
Number of Splits: |
avg 1x/week per culture since 4/2014 x avg 2 cultures going = 120 |
Density: |
not measured
|
Harvest Methology: |
Rotifer culture water is sieved through a 53 micrometre screen (Florida Aqua Farm Inc. plankton collector). Collected rotifers are washed off the screen into the larval culture water. |
Adjustments Made: |
In the past I made the culture water with a SG of 1.025, but I have found brachionus plicatilis reproduces faster at a lower salinity. I now use 1.012 for culture water. |
