At least 3-4 pulses of baby brine shrimp per day. Was also starting to add Otohime A. |
Fry Description: (Pre Settlement) |
clear, fully developed fish. Settlement starts when babies start relating to the substrate / interacting with it (i.e. hiding in sections of PVC tubing) |
Fry Description: (Post Settlement) |
Transitions into juvenile coloration. All babies were dead by 38 days post hatch, so the best I ever saw in this initial run was a yellow head on a white body. |

Other Information: |
There appears to be some bacterial problems in the new Larviculture system, and unfortunately it is causing problems for all the dottyback larvae. I'm experiencing heavy mortality. While I personally consider this initial run a "species takedown", it does not in fact qualify as a full success. Any future "60 day post settlement" report will be from a different run than these first three reports. Note, you can see photos of the settled juvenile on page 5 of my breeding journal. Finally, note that the end settlement date of 10/29/2010 is the last date my wife observed any viable fish in the rearing container. I cannot personally say they were settled or otherwise, as when I left on a 5 day work and speaking trip (Midwest Fragfest) there was 1 settled juvenile, and 3 that had not (one being a younger batch of fish). |
