|
Hatch Time: |
between 12:00 AM and 4:40 AM |
Fry Count:
( at Hatch ) |
50-100 |
Fry Count:
( at Settlement ) |
1 |
Fry Size: |
approximately 1 to 1.5 cm |
Food: |
Baby Brine Shrimp added in around 18 days post hatch, with Otohime A added in around 25 days post hatch. On my BEST runs, getting the babies weened fully onto Otohime A and crushed Spirulina Flake by 35 days post hatch worked the best |
Feeding Schedule: |
continuous where possibly (i.e. with the baby brine shrimp), moving to probably 4 times per day with the dry foods |
Fry Description: (Pre Settlement) |
I believe that settlement fully occurs at 55 days post hatch or later. From my opinion, metamorphosis may be done by day 25 (as flexion is done by then). Between then and 55 days, the larvae slowly grows the long nose (done by about 40 days) turns lavender (around 41-42 days), and then spend the remaining 1-2 weeks developing the adult coloration. |
Fry Description: (Post Settlement) |
at 1.5 cm and 55 days, my first baby was found SLEEPING on the bottom of the bowl, a true "adult" behavior. In every respect, at this point, the baby is a full blown miniature of the adult. |

Since the exact date of settlement is possibly an "unknown", I have brought this up in a thread on the MBI forums - http://www.mbisite.org/Forums/tm.aspx?m=42439 - my last picture (for next report) is at 106 days post hatch...may or may not be "old enough" to qualify for 60 days post settlement (15 weeks of age), depending on when YOU think settlement really occurred.
Here are a couple images linked directly, of the babies developing through settlement:
307 hours post hatch: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/nanoreef08/DSCN4375.jpg
668 hours post hatch - when some folks believe meta/settlement is already done! http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/nanoreef08/DSCN5259.jpg
956.5 hours post hatch - meta is definitely done, but settlement in my opinion has yet to happen: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/nanoreef08/DSCN5491.jpg
1149 hours post hatch (47 days) - adult coloration forming: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/nanoreef08/DSCN5844.jpg
1288 hours post hatch (53 days) - basically there: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/nanoreef08/DSCN6058.jpg
1338 hours post hatch (55.75 days) - this is basically the full fledged juvenile in my book, and the point at which I found it sleeping: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/nanoreef08/DSCN6103.jpg
