Larvae Size |
Slender elongated, app. 2-3 mm |
First Food: |
Rotifers (L strain) have been tried on 3 seperate hatchings. Added immediately after larvae are placed in larval tank. Don't know if larvae are preying on them, they may be too large. |
Larvae Description:
( Do larvae have eyes, mouth, gut, attracted to light, etc?) |
The larvae are very small, like glass splinters. Visible eyes. I would have to put them under a microscope to really get details on anatomy. When viewed from the surface of the water, pectoral fins are visible. Lighting was essential in syphoning larvae from main display to homemade nursery tank. In the nursery tank they tend to be closer to the surface and sides. The larvae are very active swimmers, sometimes darting quickly for several body lengths. I have not noticed any type of yolk sack. |

Other Information: |
I set up a 1.5 gal larval tank. It is gravity fed from the refugium using 3/8" tubing gated down to 1 drop/sec. A rigid air tube blows gentle bubbles up the middle of the tank. I installed a 3/8" side drain near the top of the tank. This skims the surface of larval tank through a sponge and drains into the lower sump. The larval tank is covered with black craft sheet material, a window was velcro'd into the front for viewing. |
