First Food: |
rotifers feed RG+. Greenwater made up of .75 ml RG+ and .75 ml phytofeast + .75 ml of ClorAm-X 2 times daily |
Larvae Description:
( Do larvae have eyes, mouth, gut, attracted to light, etc?) |
Larvae are clear, with eyes, swim toward the light, very active. Readily accept rotifers. About 50 died shortly after hatching (over night prior to next morning), but the vast majority survived. By day 2, some larvae were observed spinning into the surface maniscus (like a drill bit), and others looked like they have a reflective inflated air bladder just above their stomaches full of rotifers. So A. percula may inflate their air bladders as early as 2 days post-hatch. It seems to help them not have to swim so hard to stay in the water column. |

Other Information: |
Also used 10 drops of white vinegar to lower pH slightly to reduce ammonia toxicity. On 2 prior attempts with eggs from the same pair I used AmQuel 1 day prior to hatch at two times the recommended dose to control ammonia and on both previous attempts most larvae were dead by morning or if any remained alive, died shortly thereafter, even after exhibiting feeding response to rotifers. |
