Ciliates, pod nauplii and pulverized Otohime A. |
Larvae Description:
( Do larvae have eyes, mouth, gut, attracted to light, etc?) |
Miniature versions of their parents. Complete with two eyes and a long mouth. See pics in journal.
Unable to determine if they are attracted to light. They did often head towards the surface but I do not know if that was because they were capturing air or attracted to the light. |

The fry seem to be best suited suspended in the water column during their first days. I created a kreisel out of a 2g flat sided fish bowl. The circulation was invoked by a slow air bubble (1 to 2 bubbles a sec) suctioned to the side of the bowl. The environment allowed for the fry to swim but not struggle.
The last fry lasted 7 days. I believe my biggest mistake was the lack of a appropriate food source. When I do it again I will try enriched live rotifers as a first food. I don't think I had a large enough supply of pod nauplii. And I believe the cilliates did not make it to the water column as needed.
