Feeding Tactics/Medium: |
2l of ASW sterilized with chlorine at .8ml/2l , allowed to sit for 24hrs and then neutralized with equal parts sodium thiosulfate. Added 20 drops of Micro Algae Grow upon start of each new culture. Would add a second 20 drops of Micro Algae Grow if growth stalled at 2-3 week range. Aeration was a light boil to keep algae fully in suspension
|
Split Cycle: |
Minimal splits - every 3-4 weeks.
|
Split Yield: |
Typically 1/3 of the original culture is added to a 2nd vessel (same description as original) and filled with sterilized ASW. Remaining 2/3 was already used or will be held with normal aeration and used as needed.

Number of Cultures: |
1 typically, 2 max

Number of Splits:< |
~5

Density: |
Not Tested
|
Harvest Methodology: |
Pour from culture into a clean small 100ml beaker to add to copepod cultures.
|
Adjustments Made: |
Originally used 1.020 salinity but went to 1.024 to make water batches consistent with my reef tank. Also used quart jars but found them to be too small and soft plastic covers held by rubberbands were messy and a pain. Lastly, started with heat sterilization but it was much more difficult so I purchased Sodium Thiosulfate at a pool store to change to bleach.
