Feeding Tactics/Medium: |
NSW prepared (typically Instant Ocean or Reef Crystals) at sg of 1.020 in old 1 gallon plastic milk jugs. Solution is sterilized using 1ml/gallon NSW of standard household bleach. When ready for use, I fill a culture bottle 2/3-3/4 full with the sterile culture medium, at 0.4ml of Drs Foster & Smith Chlorine Neutralizer and 20 drops Guillards f/2 (dechlor done at least 15 minutes before innoculation). Bottle then innoculated from a mature bottle, leaving about 2" unfilled space (to avoid foaming with aeration). Aeration is via rigid tubing through the drilled bottle cap.
Split Cycle: |
Cultures mature in about 8-9 days, and are then used to feed tanks & innoculate new culture bottles.
Split Yield: |
About 500ml available for feeding from each bottle, not including the amount to start a new culture.
Number of Cultures: |
Maintaining 2 active cultures at this time.
Number of Splits:< |
numerous since startup
Density: |
not measured
Harvest Methodology: |
When a bottle is mature (rich emerald green to the eye), one-fourth to one-third is poured into a freshly prepared bottle for a new culture. The remainder is used as food.
Adjustments Made: |
None so far. I have been using the same process as used for my t-iso with good results.
