Feeding Tactics/Medium: |
Rotifers are feed with Reeds Rotifer Diet at a level where by the bottom of the container cannot be seen.
This is in the order of 50ml - 100ml of diluted Rotifer Diet per 2 days. One part rotifer diet is diluted with 10 parts aged artificial salt water.
Left over live algae (Nanno or Tet is sometimes added, but not regularly).
|
Split Cycle: |
Once the density of Rotifers peaks (or two weeks), the culture is moved to a new set of buckets. Or a new single bucket and 50% are frozen depending on demand.
Both buckets are filled to 15L mark with new aged artificial salt water and provided with Rotifer Diet to colour water deep green. The Rotifers from the old bucket are filtered through a series of screens and the contents remaining on the 20um screen are back washed into the two new buckets.
|
Split Yield: |
Several cultures have been restarted from original (4-5)
If the culture looks stained or bubbles start to form, the culture is sieved via 100um, 50um and 20um screens and restarted in fresh aged artificial salt water.

Harvest Methodology: |
Daily remove 1-2L per day per culture of liquid and replace with new aged artificial salt water. Rotifers are used to feed to fry, are frozen or feed to reef tank depending on demand.
|
Adjustments Made: |
Amount of culture removed per day, dependant on density.
Change from using a 50um sieve to a 20um sieve.
Temp has been reduced from 29c to 28c
