Monos have been spawned for years; they were frequent contaminants in Todd Gardner's egg collections out of the 20K reef tank at the long island aquarium. We've not listed them prior to now as we generally think of Monos as FW or Brackish fish, but Jonathan Foster has revealed that their sperm only activates in saltwater. In other words, these are fish that require saltwater to successfully spawn. As such, they fully qualify in my world as a marine ornamental....one that just can also be kept in lower salinities. |
