verified directly with Martin Moe, who wrote: "The Hypoplectrus report was accurate, I know because I did that myself when we had the hatchery in Marathon in the 70s - 80s. We did not maintain a brood stock of this species, what we did was to collect individuals that appeared gravid, I don't recall if we injected them with HCG or just force spawned them in the early evening hours. At any rate, I do recall getting both sperm and eggs from single individuals, getting good fertilization, and successfully rearing a few into juveniles... did list Hypoplectrus unicolor on page 257 of the second edition of the Marine Aquarium Handbook, the third edition boiled the list down to just families" |
