Can you tell us more about what you did? Have you done any other research into this species that you can share with us? Yes, this is the correct way to get a species classified in the MBI if it's not already listed

to call what I did research would be a stretch, a big stretch Basically I was trying to raise boxing shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) fry and the hermits released fry into the water on the same night, I was raising them as boxing shrimp fry thinking the various metamorphosises were the changes shrimp fry go through but after a few weeks the remaining fry were living on the bottom of their container but struggling to walk around on the bare bottom, I added a bit of gravel which had some tiny shells in and was surprised to see the one remaining fry crawl almost instantly into a shell only about 1mm in diameter. I know I only had one left at that point but I believe had I known they were hermit fry and gave them shells a week earlier many more would survive (assuming there wasn't much fighting for homes). Once this one was in a shell feeding was easy flake, pellet and frozen were all easily scavenged by it and it was just a case of sifting through gravel to find different size shells as it grew. It took a while before it was big enough to be called fully grown, although I'd have to go through my old posts to work out time frames.
As I said you can't really call this research, I'm very much just a hobbyist and not particularly experienced in breeding yet, I have very little info on broodstock as they live in my reef tank could be any 2 of about 8 hermits that breed in there. I haven't witnessed a hermit actually releasing fry yet. I have noticed other hermit spawns but only about 3 in six months and tried to raise a few batches using copepods rather than rotifers but they all died after 3 days. I do plan on doing a "proper" attempt next time I spot fry on nights when I'm sure there's no shrimp fry released.
I had a thread on ultimate reef if you want to look through but it isn't a dedicated thread really and of course for a while I think their shrimp fry so some of the pics are mis-labelled have a look through if you like http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=396124

Hey Rhodri, when I asked about research I meant searching the internet / literature for more information on the reproduction of the species. That vid on page 4 = super cool!

Oh right, no I haven't really found all that much on breeding them other than what is in the hermit section on MOFIB. They have been raised a couple of times over on there though.

Hi sorry it's taking a while for me to reply all the time, I've not been on the PC much lately and typing from a phone is a pain No I don't have any links really on the breeding overview of hermits on MOFIB both Iris Bönig (Iris) and Till Deuss (till) maybe you know of them from your time on MOFIB? They have P. cadenati reaching meta at just 11 days and can take newly hatch BS from day one aside from that I've not read much sorry. http://www.marinebreeder.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=196&t=967

Wow. That does it for me. I'd never seen that - partly because the ORIGINAL overview had never been updated...so you go in there and see an EMPTY overview.
Indeed - here's the 11 days as recorded by Iris. WOW. http://www.meerwasserlarven.de/krebse/paguristes_cadenati.htm
